Five Years of Progress

When the Myelin Repair Foundation began funding research in 2004, we set an audacious goal: To license our first myelin repair therapeutic target for commercial development in five years. This was 15-20 years faster than most people thought to be possible. Achieving this short-term goal is the first of many milestones toward our greater goal of rapidly developing and delivering myelin repair treatments to Multiple sclerosis patients.

Addressing Every Phase of Drug Development

The Myelin Repair Foundation is the only research organization that addresses every phase in the drug discovery process, from initial research all the way to licensing by commercial drug developers. This is the only way to ensure that promising research results in real patient treatments – in the shortest amount of time.

Rollover each phase to learn about our progress to date.

Unlike many other research organizations, the Myelin Repair Foundation is committed to breaking down barriers to treatments across the entire spectrum of drug discovery from the basic biology to target validation, drug discovery, clinical trials and FDA approval.

By being engaged throughout the process, we are able to build a deeper understanding of how myelin is formed, damaged and repaired and carry that information forward through each step in the process. Even failures offer important insights into discoveries, making learning why some experiments fail as important as celebrating those that succeed.

The results are stunning. For those interested in more detailed information on the science behind our achievements, see our research plan and read our scientific publications.

24 new research tools including mouse models and assays that may be used in a wide range of neurological research.
Over 150 potential therapeutic targets, 12 of which are being advanced in further studies. First patent awarded in 2008; second in 2010; patents files on 20 more discoveries. More than 80 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
Engagement with biotech company PharmOptima to make go/no go decisions on 3 targets. In contract negotiations with a second mid-size biotech company to advance 1-2 targets. In discussions with a large biotech company to advance 1 target.
Supporting two early-stage clinical trials.

Your Donation Matters

Our work is made possible by the generous donations of individuals, foundations and corporations who believe in the promise of myelin repair and share our commitment to deliver a new treatment to MS patients as fast as possible.

Please help us maintain our momentum. Your gift today will help us reach the first myelin repair Phase I Clinical Trial by 2014.
