Highlights from Aspen Institute Health Forum

I recently returned from the Aspen Institute where I participated as a speaker in their inaugural Health Forum. It was an extraordinary opportunity to share ideas and network with a group of scientists, industry representatives, policy makers, other not-for-profits, members of the media, and the next generation of physicians on the subject of health and health care. I took at least three important messages from this conference that I’d like to share with our friends and supporters:

First, the U.S. system of health care is broken from top to bottom. The problems facing our nation and our world with respect to cost and access to health care are enormous and will require the concerted effort of all of us if we want to see change. Second, many of the best minds are considering these issues and joining forces where possible to create that change. And third, that our cutting edge work is being watched by others as a prototype for accelerating medical research and moving academic discoveries into the commercial pipeline. This will mean saving precious dollars and more importantly time for patients and their families who are frustrated with the status quo. It also reinforces our belief that what we are doing is unique and holds promise for accelerating patient treatments for all diseases.

I am grateful for the generous support we have received from many of you that has made that work possible. And I encourage your continued support so that we can stay on course toward proving the Accelerated Research Collaboration™ model. I also encourage your engagement in the broader issues of health and health care facing our country. I hope you will join us in stewarding for the next generation a legacy of quality health care for all.

Sincerely,
